SOS Ministries 23rd Annual Banquet “MADE FOR MORE” was a Success!
Celebrating 30 years of ministry in the Brazos Valley
This year’s banquet, “MADE FOR MORE”, was an evening to remember! We celebrated all God has done through SOS and had the privilege of serving over 550 people from diverse cultural, denominational, and socio-economic backgrounds. It was an amazing time of reflection and celebration of how God has made us for more. It is the DNA of SOS to “Rescue, Restore, and Release” those we serve and work passionately to further God’s transforming revival in the lives of men, women, and children across the Brazos Valley.
SOS has a front row seat in seeing God’s raising up sons and daughters, teaching them they are made for more and transforming the hearts of His people, young and old alike. We were blessed to hear personal stories of God’s saving power. Marshall, one of our Men’s Home residents, shared:
“By the age of 21 I realized I was well addicted to drugs and always searching for something. But everywhere I went, there I was. I couldn’t get away from my addictions. I called Rick at SOS and told him I was done with that life. When I first got to SOS I heard JJ say, your success is in your surrender. Something right then clicked in me. I thought okay that’s what I have to do! I have to lay it all down. SOS is a family to me, and I know God has brought me here to help others. The most important part is having that relationship with Jesus in your heart because you can go anywhere and do anything with Him.”
Vivian, who started coming when she was 10 years old, shared her experience of being changed and transformed by Jesus: “When I returned to SOS after years of being away and running from God because of what my dad had done to me, Carmen invited me to a women’s retreat and the speakers had both experienced sexual abuse. I saw how they had forgiven those people who had done that to them and learned that I could forgive my dad and prayed for him for the first time. I am forever grateful to SOS, Carmen, JJ, all of them.”
Founder and Director, JJ Ramirez, encouraged the audience:
“God has done amazing works through SOS over the years. God is speaking to us in this time of need. Like he tells us in Romans 8:37, we are more than conquerors. We don’t need an act of congress; we need a move of God. It is time to pray, wake up, & stand up, because for such a time as this, we were made for more.”

The Mission of SOS Ministries
In 1993, God gave our founder, J.J. Ramirez, ex-drug dealer and addict, a vision of SOS Ministries and what God could accomplish through this ministry; how it could be a place of hope to Rescue, Restore, and Release those who are surrounded by drugs, abuse, and violence. Since then, with your faithful partnership, we have seen God transform thousands of lives through our discipleship classes, vocational training, life skill education, and neighborhood outreaches tailored to reach the whole family, from child to grandparent.
Each year, we invest in the daily lives of over 600 children, teens, women, and men in the Brazos Valley. Our ministry staff has experienced many of the struggles of those we serve and are provided unique, unbound opportunities to show the love of Jesus in culturally relevant ways, meeting them where they are.
