Almost 25 years ago, as JJ Ramirez was praying in the back of his house, the Lord came to him and gave him a vision for Save Our Streets Ministries: a 24/7 transformation center. This was not a man-sized vision, but a God-sized vision, and JJ knew it was something that he could not do on his own. Sixteen years after God gave JJ the vision, with clear direction from God partnered with faith from people in the community, SOS Ministries built the first building on our 20 acres.
In 2014, an effort was launched to build a new men’s home on the other side of the SOS ministries property. Thanks to the generosity of the Brazos Valley Community and the tremendous contributions of StyleCraft Builders as well as Arkitex Studio and CEC Engineering, the Ted Wyatt Residential Discipleship Home was officially opened at the beginning of November 2017.
The Men’s Home Program is a nine to twelve month discipleship program designed to help men in difficult situations transform into men of God.
The SOS Men’s Home can house up to 12 residents that commit to a 9-12 month program. A majority of the people served are raised in an environment where a father, or father figure, is not present. This leaves a void with no one to teach or model what a God-fearing, responsible man looks like. Over 20 years ago, JJ opened the door to the first men’s home residents. The men in the program are not only given a place to stay, but they are discipled and taught how to study the Word of God, to work hard, and to manage finances. Most importantly, they are introduced to Jesus and shown how to be a Godly man, husband, and father.
